Dua minggu lalu, National Oversight & Whistleblowers Centre (NOW) telah mendapat beberapa dokumen penting yang menjadi bukti campur tangan Menteri Perdagangan Dalam Negeri, Koperasi dan Kepenggunaan dalam hal ehwal pentadbiran Bank Rakyat semata-mata untuk menyelamatkan seorang niagawan yang dilaporkan rapat dengan Perdana Menteri dan isterinya, iaitu Deepak Jaikishen.

Kesemua 13 dokumen yang diserahkan kepada NOW melibatkan surat menyurat rasmi di antara Bank Rakyat dan Menteri terbabit, kertas-kertas Lembaga Pengarah, memo dalaman dan lain-lain.

SPRM ACUH TAK ACUH MENYIASAT RASUAH MEMBABITKAN AHLI POLITIK

YB Dato’ Senator Paul Low menjawab soalan lisan saya mengenai jumlah laporan rasuah yang diterima terhadap ahli politik di antara 2010 hingga kini dan jumlah siasatan yang dibuka. Saya juga bertanyakan dari jumlah itu, berapa kes yang dihantar kepada Peguam Negara dan berapa kes yang berakhir dengan pendakwaan.

Jawapan yang diberikan Menteri adalah pendek dan mengelak dari menjawab soalan yang sebenarnya. Jawapan ringkas itu hanya berbunyi:

“Sepanjang tahun 2010 hingga Ogos 2013, SPRM telah menangkap 9 orang ahli politik dan dari jumlah itu, 5 orang telah didakwa di mahkamah”.

Soalan yang saya ajukan cuba mengesahkan bahawa SPRM ada melakukan siasatan terhadap ahli-ahli politik tetapi kertas pendakwaan ditolak oleh Peguam Negara. Oleh itu, statistik berapa siasatan yang ditolak oleh Peguam Negara adalah penting untuk mengesahkan dakwaan SPRM selama ini bahawa Peguam Negaralah yang bertanggungjawab melindungi SPRM.

Walau bagaimana pun, keengganan SPRM dan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri mengesahkan berapa siasatan yang dibuka terhadap ahli politik dan berapa kertas siasatan yang dihantar kepada Peguam Negara menunjukkan bahawa SPRM pun acuh tidak acuh dalam memerangi kegiatan rasuah di kalangan ahli politik. Dari jawapan di Parlimen ini, saya boleh merumuskan bahawa SPRM pun turut sama melindungi ahli politik yang rasuah seperti mana Peguam Negara.

Ku Li: Reforms first, polls later

Corrupt Barisan Nasional l by: Teoh El Sen - KUALA LUMPUR: The government should reform the electoral system first before calling for the general election, Umno stalwart and Angkatan Amanah Merdeka (Amanah) president Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said today.

“We welcome the government’s decision to set up the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC). The government must take in all views, including those before Bersih and after, to ensure a free and fair election,” Razaleigh told a press conference at his residence here.

He said that the PSC should be allowed to complete its task expeditiously and all relevant laws amended appropriately and put in place before the general election is called.

Razaleigh, or better known as Ku Li, said that the Bersih 2.0 mass rally on July 9 need not have happened if the government had responded properly.

“I had passed a message to the government asking them to meet with the organisers. What happened was unfortunate; people came out in the thousands despite threats, and it was a mixed crowd too…,” Razaleigh said.

BAKUN DAM: The first turbine is spinning, electricity is pulsing out, and the water level is climbing in the Borneo jungle behind Malaysia’s huge US$2.2 billion Bakun hydroelectric dam.

But questions continue to swirl around the viability of a project described by critics as a graft-plagued human and ecological disaster – and as opposition mounts against a dozen other planned dams in Sarawak.

The first turbine from French giant Alstom began producing electricity in August and the dam’s reservoir has swelled to the size of Singapore since impoundment began a year ago.

After years of warnings about the impact on Sarawak’s pristine jungles and the forced removal of thousands of local tribespeople, the dam’s head Zulkifle Osman sees light at the end of the tunnel.

During a tour of the facility, the managing director of Sarawak Hidro, who has overseen construction since 2000, defended the dam despite an electricity surplus in the state and the lack of a market for its power.

Corrupt Barisan Nasional - KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s four-day “working visit” to two Caribbean islands in 2006 was the subject of a confidential US cable which raised questions over the purpose and the potential achievements for the countries involved.

The cable by US diplomats based in the Caribbean to the State Department in Washington DC came about two weeks after Abdullah completed his visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines from April 29 to May 2 in 2006.

The cable noted that Abdullah’s visit was more of a vacation rather than a working visit, in which the Malaysian premier had spend a day on a fishing trip with St Vincent Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves.

AG Gani Patail is again courting controversy by the revelation in Malaysia Today, which appeared on the Aug 24, 2011. If the allegation is not thoroughly investigated, it will be perceived badly by the Rakyat.

Malaysia Today produced documentary evidence of what appears to be AG Gani Patail receiving gratification to take sides in a corporate boardroom tussle in Ho Hup Construction Berhad.

Previously, photographs had already surfaced in various blogs of AG Gani Patail with that company’s previous managing director, Vincent Lye.

Low-profile lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan, who is also the Bersih chief, was thrown rudely into the limelight. We’ll derail BN, railwaymen warn Najib

PETALING JAYA: In a letter to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, the Railwaymen Union of Malaya (RUM) warned him of protest votes against the Barisan Nasional in the next polls.

The letter penned by union secretary-general Jaafar Alias in his capacity as the Tampin Umno information chief also panned the Najib admnistration’s tagline.

“They (KTMB staff) said the slogan of ‘people first, performance now’ does not seem to be relevant… where the views of union members and KTMB employees have been ignored,” he said.

Armed with suspended constitution for 30 years, Hosni Mubarak was in virtually every piece of business deal in the country thanks to guaranteed profit from monopolies, red-tape fees, bribery fees, nepotism and whatnot. The British Guardian newspaper estimated the wealth of Mubarak and his family at somewhere between US$40 billion and US$70 billion. That’s about US$1 billion to US$2 billion net profit annually on average, not bad for a job as a president ruling a nation with GDP per capita of just $6,300.

KUALA LUMPUR: Another glittering allegation has surfaced about the prime minister’s wife, this time over a set of diamond bangles which industry experts claim may be worth a fortune.

Yesterday, several pro-opposition bloggers claimed that Rosmah Mansor had acquired a ring from the New York-based fine jeweller Jacob & Co worth RM73 million.

The bloggers identified the item as a “Natural Fancy Blue Gray Cushion Cut Diamond Ring”. It had supposedly passed through the Kuala Lumpur International Airport customs in April this year.

Research by Sarawak Report has identified clear evidence that the same team of paid writers have been working on a sustained campaign of deliberate vilification of Anwar, in an attempt to destroy his image in the United States and to give the impression in Malaysia that he is heavily criticised in America.

This dirty tricks campaign began shortly after Tsunami election result in 2008 that nearly swept Anwar and the PR coalition into office and it is clearly financed by BN.

Sarawak Report can reveal that a key orchestrator behind the dirty tricks campaigns that have been waged against Anwar Ibrahim, Gordon Brown and Sarawak Report is a ginger-bearded American blogger named Josh Trevino.

Trevino claims he was a speech-writer for George Bush and he is a founder of the popular Republican blog, Red State.  His outspoken, far-right views have provoked controversy in the US, where he has been striving to make a name for himself via the internet.  

Those provocative views are, however, unlikely to appeal to his Malaysian clients in BN, who, nevertheless, have clearly being paying him and his associates to defame their political enemies and boost their own publicity.

Dormant company gets RM5.8b LNG project

Corrupt Barisan Nasional - IPOH: The Perak DAP today lodged a report against the Barisan Nasional state government for misusing its power in awarding a RM5.8 billion project to a RM100 dormant company to import liquified natural gas (LNG) from Qatar.

The project is located in Segari, Manjung.

The report was lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“This is a clear case of misuse of power by BN in giving this RM5.8 billion project to the RM100 dormant company named Atigas Technology Sdn Bhd,” party state deputy chief V Sivakumar said at a press conference. Also present were two other Pakatan members.

He believes that the project has been given to Umno cronies but he did not name the directors in the company.

He claimed that a check with the Companies Commission of Malaysia on Atigas Technology revealed that this dormant company was registered on Feb 28, 2008 and had no record of business activities or profits.

Corrupt Barisan Nasional - SHAH ALAM: Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo had put pressure on Ditamas Sdn Bhd director Shamsuddin Hayroni to lie to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in 2009 so as not to implicate either of them in any offence.

“When I was called in by the MACC in 2009, I received a lot of pressure from Khir,” Shamsuddin testified today when being re-examined by deputy public prosecutor Abdul Wahab Mohamed at the corruption trial of Khir at the Shah Alam High Court.

“At the time… I was asked not to involve him and myself in any charges,” he said, prompting some angry exclamations from some Khir supporters seated in the packed gallery.
