Six MACC officers under probe

KUALA LUMPUR: City police chief Zulkifli Abdullah said today six MACC officers have been hauled up over the death of Selangor Customs department assistant director, Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed.
He said that all six have been questioned over the director’s death from a fall at the MACC office here two days ago, but refused to divulge details regarding ongoing investigations.
Zulkifli said that although a post-mortem on Ahmad Sarbani was conducted yesterday, the full report would only be available once the lab reports are in.

He revealed that the injuries found on Ahmad Sarbani’s body were consistent with a fall from a height, but the cause of death could only be determined when the full post-mortem report is available.
He said there was only one post-mortem conducted. Police have also seized CCTV footage from the MACC office and a team is analysing it.
“I don’t want to comment any further,”  said Zulkifli, adding that police were looking into all aspects of the case. “We don’t want this case to be an investigation through the media.”
‘MACC doing its job’
Two MACC officers were suspended yesterday for failing to accompany witnesses at all times while they are in MACC premises.
Ahmad Sarbani, 56 was found dead outside the Kuala Lumpur MACC building hours after he went there to change a statement he had given earlier to officers.
He was among 62 officers arrested in Penang, Johor, Selangor and Pahang by a special task force team of MACC, the Inland Revenue Board, Customs Department and Bank Negara officials.
His death comes just as a Royal Comission of Inquiry (RCI) is sitting to investigate the death of Teoh Beng Hock and MACC’s investigation methods.
Teoh, the ex-political aide of Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, was found dead in 2009 after an overnight questioning by MACC officers in their office in Shah Alam.
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak weighed in on the matter, saying the deaths of Teoh and Ahmad Sarbani were different as the latter had voluntariy gone to the MACC office.
Najib defended the anti-graft commission, saying it was just doing its job of safegurading national funds.
